The Dad Network was founded by Al Ferguson back on 2014, with the support of his wife Jen. They live in Kent in the UK and have a 22 month old son called Ted who enjoys throwing ping pong balls for most of the day. The Dad Network operates nationally and acts as a support for many parents out there.
Parent Apparel were very kindly awarded the GOLD award for Best Dad ClothingProduct in the recent Dad Network awards (WOOP).
Since starting The Dad Network, the blog has developed a global following. We caught up with Al recently about his parenting skills, the awesome 'poo on his arm shot' and life in general. Follow Al over on instagram, twitter and facebook @thedadnetwork for more.
1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Al Ferguson. I'm a husband, Dad, and founder of The Dad Network.
2. Who are you a Dad to and how would you describe the person.
I'm a Dad to Louis (12) Isla (4) and Teddy (2) Louis is basically a walking Nike advert, and an avid sportsman. He's intuitive, kind and determined. Isla is often in a world of make believe with princesses and superhero. She loves dressing up and styling everybody’s hair. Teddy is a whirlwind. He's non-stop but I wouldn't have it any other way. He's loving, funny and train mad!
3. Describe your Parenting style in three words.
Full of love
…And now if we were to ask your kids to describe your Parenting style in three words what would they say?
Isla - fun
4. What was the last picture you took on your phone?
Teddy making his Christmas letter to Santa.
5. Describe a typical day.
Ted wakes any time between 4-6. We come downstairs and have breakfast together and watch a bit of Polar Express, or whatever his film of the moment is. We get dressed which can take anywhere up to an hour! Then we go to a playgroup or a baby/toddler class. We have lunch together and then Teddy has a nap and I work on The Dad Network website. When he wakes we paint, so some messy play, play with his toys or play in the garden. We all have a family meal at 6 ish and then Ted and I have a bath together. We take it in turns to read him his bedtime stories and put him to bed at 7. Then I get back to work again and work late in to the evening.
6. Are you there yet? And where is there?
I'm there with my wife and with my children. I'm extremely happy and feel very fortunate.
I'm not there with our journey to have another baby. 4 miscarriages on and I'm losing direction!
I'm nowhere near there with The Dad Network. I have so many aspirations for the future of The Dad Network and the dads that are part of it. I’m a long way off but starting to make haste!
7. Funniest or most tragic Parenting moment to date?
8. Let’s talk about sleep… how much do you get a night?
Anywhere between a couple of hours to 7 hours. Depends on Ted!
9. How do you make sure it’s a Good Yawning?
Every morning waking up with my wife is a good one.
10. Let’s talk about GIN. Mother’s Ruin or Mother’s Saviour? How do you relax?
Dad! But I'd say ruin. I'd rather have a bottle or two of Prosecco! Or a nice cider!
